Lynn (Monticone) McCormack was born and raised in Hanson, MA. She was a Nurse’s Aide at Plymouth County Hospital in Hanson and after graduating from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, she attended SMU (now UMass Dartmouth) to study Nursing. In 1989, she graduated from the College of Nursing & Allied Health at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Lynn worked as a registered nurse at Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton and as a visiting nurse on the south shore for nearly 20 years, until she cared for one particular patient ill with cancer. After serving as his visiting nurse until his passing, Lynn resolved to commit her entire nursing career to fighting cancer. She obtained the coveted professional credential as an oncology-certified nurse (OCN) and soon after became one of the first oncology nurses hired at the new Dana Farber Cancer Institute in clinical affiliation with South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She considered this her dream job.
Lynn lived a wonderful life as a daughter, sister, wife, nurse, mother, and grandmother for many years until her diagnosis of ALS in early 2021. She bravely endured everything to continue to be with her family. She never stopped thinking of others and trying to provide as much as she could for all those close to her.
ALS took her life in 2023, But her family’s love for her is unmistakable and will live on forever.
